Vigil for Peace and Planting of a Peace Tree
On Armed Forces Day, 28 June, we held a silent vigil for peace. We believe that it is by working for peace, seeking conflict resolution and finding alternatives to the projection of force in international affairs, we will best support our service personnel and build a better world for future generations. We particularly welcomed serving and former members of the Armed Forces.
Quakerism is a way of life that is shaped by a deep commitment to peace, simplicity, truth and equality. This commitment is rooted in, and nourished by, our experience of silent and attentive worship. From this grows our belief in the sanctity of all life.
As a visual symbol of the growth of peacemaking within the Bury St Edmunds’ community we planted a ‘peace rose’ in our Meeting House garden.
