Remembrance Day, Laying of White Poppy Wreath

Remembrance Day, Laying of White Poppy Wreath

On Remembrance Sunday, Bury St Edmunds Quakers will once again lay a wreath of white poppies at the Angel Hill war memorial.

The white poppy represents all, civilians and military alike, whose lives have been taken by armed conflict. There is a particular poignancy this year as we reflect on the war in Ukraine in which so many civilians are losing their lives. As of 23 October, the United Nations have verified a total of 6374 civilian deaths, of which 402 are children. In addition, 9776 people have been injured. This is the terrible nature of modern warfare.

With silence, poetry and readings, we will hold in remembrance all lives cut short or changed for ever, and renew our commitment to the work of peace and conflict resolution.

All will be welcome to join us on 13 November at 2.30 pm.
