Oh What a Lovely War
Woolpit Drama Club is staging a production of this remarkable and very moving play to mark the one
hundredth anniversary of the start of World War One. The play was created by Joan Littlewood’s Theatre workshop in 1963.
Littlewood had commissioned a playwright but was not happy with the script, so she decided to create something herself, working with actors in the Theatre Workshop company. The result is a unique blend of action and songs, played out against a backdrop of slides and images, that gives an expressive insight
into the course of the war and its effects on soldiers at the front and civilians at home.
Performances: Woolpit Village Hall at 7.30pm, plus 2.30pm matinee on Saturday 22 November
Tickets: £10 (under 16’s £6) from Woolpit Post Office or telephone 01359 242283 to book
£1 from every ticket sale will be donated to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal
